144 Infantry Brigade Troops Join Dengue Prevention in Gotatuwa MOH Areas

Army personnel of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment under command to the 144 Infantry Brigade of the 14 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ-West (SFHQ -West) demonstrated their commitment to the greater benefit of the public health by participating in another Dengue prevention campaign on Thursday (03 Aug) at the request of the National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health.

All troops across the country as per directions of the Commander of the Army have been advised to throw their weight behind the success of this national drive against Dengue epidemic.

The campaign, joined by Public Health Inspectors, Policemen, and Civil Security Department, Health Department, MOH office and Urban Council employees focused on Gotatuwa MOH area in Colombo where a marked increase of Dengue cases has been reported in the past weeks. During the project, Army troops played a crucial role in assisting the local authorities in this project. They worked alongside to conduct inspections of residential areas, schools, and public spaces, identifying and eliminating potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes and raising awareness about Dengue prevention and control measures among the local communities.

At the same time, the Army’s involvement in this community project was totally monitored by the Brigade Commander of 144 Infantry Brigade and the Commanding Officer, 2 (V) SLLI. The Commander, SF-West, as well as the General Officer Commanding, 14 Infantry Division gave their guidance to the project.
