14 (V) GW Troops in Galle Join Dengue Eradication Project

Troops of the 14 (V) Gemunu Watch (GW) recently joined a 'Shramadana' campaign, aimed at combating 'Dengue' epidemic in the Galle Harbour area on Monday (05 June) on the instructions of the Commander, Security Forces - West.

This initiative brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including port employees, boat owners, fishery inspectors, Public Health Inspectors, Police personnel, and coast guards. This joint effort begun from the Galle Harbour premises was organized in conjunction with the ongoing Dengue epidemic prevention programme in the Galle district.

A group of 25 Army personnel joined the project as per the request. The Shramadana campaign focused on identifying and eliminating potential breeding sites for Dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

In addition to eliminating breeding sites, the participants also cleaned the surrounding areas of the harbour premises. By working together with other stakeholders, the troops were able to make a significant impact in the fight against Dengue in the Galle Harbour area.

The General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, 613 Brigade Commander and Commanding Officer of 14 (V) Battalion Gemunu Watch contributed to the success of this community-oriented project.
