14 SLE Responds Swiftly to Gas Leakage

The 14 Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) Response Regiment (14 SLE) swiftly responded to a hazardous gas leakage at Lanka Steel Company in Weliweriya on 5 April 2024, preventing potential harm to civilians and property in the area.

The Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre - Gampaha alerted the 14 SLE about the gas emitting from a 111kg cylinder, posed a significant risk to the surrounding area at a scrap metal collecting point located in Embaraluwa, Weliweriya.

The 14 SLE successfully neutralized the threat under the supervision of Major M.J Salgadu RSP USP, the Commanding Officer of 14 SLE under the guidance of Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division.
