One hundred and thirty eight new recruits who recently joined the 5 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) for engineering services passed out in a smart parade upon completion of the three-month long basic recruit training at the Recruit Training School, Maberiyatenna, Digana after a ceremony on Saturday (3).
The military formalities and the ceremonial PoP parade, assumed the form of a cultural pageant, coloured by displays in physical training, band playing, taekwondo, etc amidst a large gathering of parents, relatives and friends.
Lieutenant Colonel L.G.J.N Ariyathilake of 11 Division Headquarters, took part in the ceremony as the Chief Guest on behalf of the Commander of the Army.
Private K.G.U.K Bandara received trophy for the Fittest Recruit and the Best Shooter award was clinched by Private G.J.M.P Ramanayake.
Private J.M.W.G Jayasinghe received the cane and trophy from the Chief Guest for the Best Recruit for achieving the highest aggregate marks for all theoretical and practical disciplines during training.
Senior officers, officers, other ranks and parents, relatives and friends of newly recruit soldiers participated in the ceremony.
