The 124th Poson Maha Perahera and Festival at Tissamaharama Rajamaha Viharaya was held at Tissamaharama Temple from 15 June 2024 to 22 June 2024.
Troops of 12 Infantry Division engaged in various activities, including painting the ‘Stupa,’ cleaning the temple premises before and after events, assisting in meal preparations at the ‘Dansala,’ and providing troops to hold ‘Muthukuda’ for the week-long ‘Pirith’ chanted by monks. Additionally, 24 men were assigned to hold ‘Sesath’ during the perahera, and the Army ‘Ves’ dancing team performed on the final day of the Perahera.
On the invitation of the Chief Incumbent and the ‘Dayaka Sabawa’ of the temple, the General Officer Commanding of the 12 Infantry Division attended the ‘Randoli Perahera’ event. During this event, he placed the ‘Golden Casket’ containing the ‘Relics’ on the main tusker.
In his oration, the Chief Incumbent of Tissamaharama Rajamaha Viharaya, the Most Ven. Dr. Devalegama Dhammasena Nayaka Thero, highlighted the contribution of the Army to 2024 Poson Festival.
