On information received from military intelligence troops, 18 Gemunu Watch troops of the 121 Brigade Tuesday evening (26) raided a Cannabis (Ganja) cultivation in the general area of Bakmitiyawa reserve, Siyambalanduwa and destroyed it.
The illegal crop cultivation, grown in about one acre of land has been done secretly inside jungle areas to the value of about Rs 10 m. Policemen also visited the location after its detection was intimated to them. Troops pulled out all plants and destroyed the bulk of it under supervision of the Police.
The Damana Police are conducting investigations and pursuing necessary action.
On the guidelines given by General Officer Commanding, 12 Division, the 121 Brigade Commander instructed his troops to swoop on this illegal cultivation.
