12 Local Teams in Jaffna Join Friendly Football Tournament

With the objective of fostering better relations, troops of the 51 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ-Jaffna invited Sports Clubs in the Jaffna peninsula to join a friendly Football Tournament, organized at the 51 Infantry Division’s CIMIC park playground on Sunday (26 Nov).

12 local club teams, including 04 junior teams participated in the tournament that got underway throughout the day. Amid roars of applause, Udayasooriyan Football team finally won the Championship, pushing Star Football club team to be the runner-up after a close tussle.

In the junior category, the Thirukumaran Junior Football team won the Championship and footballers in the Anna Star Junior Football team secured the runner-up slot.

Major General S.W.B Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division watched the final match as the Chief Guest and presented trophies and cash prizes to the winners.

A group of well-wishers sponsored for the cash prices at the request of the 51 Infantry Division.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the Division also took part in the event.
