Due to continuous adverse weather conditions in the Southern Province, a 100-meter long section in the outer perimeter fence at Ridiyagama Safari Park was damaged on 01 December.
Officials of the Safari Park with a view to mending the fence sought the Army assistance from the 12 Infantry Division HQ before those animals move out unless the repairs were done.
Accordingly, Major General C.S Munasinghe WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc IG, the General Officer Commanding, 12 Infantry Division instructed a 35-member contingent of troops of the 12 Infantry Division HQ and the 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment including Engineer Officers be deployed for the task as soon as possible before animals could move out.
The officials of the Safari Park extended their gratitude to the troops after they completed the task within hours.
