12 Division Headquarters Enters Into New Complex

The newly-constructed building complex of the 12 Division Headquarters, Hambantota was declared open this morning (21) by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva during a formal military ceremony.

Commander, Security Forces – Central (SF-C) Major General P.U.S Vithange, together with the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 12 Division Headquarters, Major General Ralph Nugera warmly received the Commander of the Army to the 12 Division Headquarters premises on arrival.

A Guard Turnout of 10 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops in keeping with military traditions, saluted the visiting Army Chief, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva at the entrance to the Headquarters premises.

Thereafter, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva was invited to unveil a symbolic plaque and warm the new office complex of the 12 Division Headquarters at Hambantota by cutting a ribbon.

The new state-of-the-art two-storied building of 150 feet in length and 40 feet in width was erected by the State Engineering Corporation (SEC) under the qualitative supervision of the 10 (V) Corps of Engineer Services (CES).

The project, commenced in the year 2014 has cost the Army Rs 60 million.

He also planted a sapling inside the camp premises as a gesture of memory of his visit to the premises at the invitation of the General Officer Commanding, 12 Division. The Commander also left his signature in the visitors’ book and posed for a group photograph with the staff at the 12 Division Headquarters office before he took leave of the premises.

The opening event was attended by former GOCs, Brigade Commanders, senior officers and other rankers. An all rank tea arrangement culminated the day’s proceedings.

After his visit to the 12 Division Headquarters, he also did not forget to share a couple of thoughts with the troops of the 122 Brigade Headquarters at Weerawila on his way before he left Hambantota.
