111 Infantry Brigade, Now 12 Years Old

The 111 Infantry Brigade located at Diyatalawa celebrated its 12th anniversary amidst religious rituals and military formalities on Monday (Jan 30) under the guidance of Brigadier Rohitha Rathnayake, Commander, 111 Infantry Brigade.

Prior to the anniversary day, troops cleaned the Elders’ Home at Pihibiyahena on Monday (23) and offered delicious refreshments and lunch to the residents the next day (24), coupled with an entertaining musical session that made them happy.

On Wednesday (Jan 25), troops attended an almsgiving (Kiriahara Pooja) and a ‘Pirith’ chanting at the Temple of Tooth, Kandy before they visited the ‘Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi’ and ‘Ruwanweli Stupa’ in Anuradhapura, the next day (26) where blessings were invoked for serving troops and the wounded before merits were transferred.

Commander, 111 Infantry Brigade was warmly welcomed on the anniversary day (30) and was greeted with a colourful Guard Turnout by the troops. Later, he was invited to pose for a group photograph before he participated in an all-rank lunch arranged at the Privates’ Mess.

The evening was coloured with brass band, beat band and dancing groups to the tunes of rhythmic musical melodies.
