11 Infected Inmates from Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre Still under Treatment - NOCPCO

As of this morning (14), 39 more persons, all of them expatriates were confirmed positive to COVID-19 epidemic. They are from Maldives (2), UAE (12), Qatar (16), Kuwait (6), Ethiopia (1), Ukraine (1) and one (1) Sea Marshal from Red Sea ship who are in quarantine at Widaththapalai Quarantine Centre (QC), Marawila Club Farm, Anuradhapura Wasala Leisure, Wellawatte Hotel Ozo, Red Araliya Hotel - Nuwara Eliya, Mullaittivu, Rantembe, Araliya Green Hotel Nuwara Eliya, Kandakadu, Bogoda, Iranamadu, Koggala Resort,Hotel Dolphin, Ramada Hotel Katunayake and Nipuna Boossa QCs, states the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

By 6.00 this morning (14), the total number of detainees in quarantine at Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts stands at 649. Of them, 528 individuals are detainees under rehabilitation, 67 staff members, 5 guest staffers, 48 family members and close associates, including 01 person who got in contact with the infected one in the Welikada Prison.

The flight EK 648 from Dubai with 26 passengers and the flight QR 668 from Doha, Qatar with 64 passengers and the flight UL 455 from Japan with 295 passengers arrived in Sri Lanka this morning and the flight 6E 9034 from India with passengers will arrive today. All of them were referred to Quarantine Centres, managed by tri-services after formalities at the airport.

Within the day (14), 159 quarantined individuals after PCR tests are set to leave for their homes. Of them, 01 person is from Ruwala Kalpitiya QC and 40 persons are from Pitipana Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps QC, 15 persons from Hotel Jetwing Beach QC, 07 persons from Diyatalawa QC, 15 from Anuradhapura Wasala Hotel QC, 05 persons from Pasikuda QC, 03 persons from Panichchankerni QC, 52 persons from Amagi Aarya Hotel, Negombo and 21 persons from the Mullaittivu QC.

Likewise, 40,965 individuals by this morning (14) have been sent back home after quarantining. 5,960 persons in 60 tri-service-managed QCs are still in quarantine. Within yesterday (13), 1890 PCR tests were carried out across the country and the total PCR tests conducted so far stands at 253,842.

Meanwhile, 13 positive COVID-19 cases after full recovery left hospitals early this morning (14). All of them are expatriates. Accordingly, 638 individuals, associated with the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts at Kandakadu have left so far after recovery. A total of 11 infected persons, connected to the Rehabilitation Centre are still under treatment. Since no positive cases have been reported from society other than those arriving from overseas, all Sri Lankans are urged to continue their health practices and help prevention of its transmission as per instructions given by health authorities.
