Troops of the 11 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-Central on the advice of the National Building Research Organization took steps to safely move out 141 civilians, belonging to 31 families, vulnerable to possible soil erosion and landslides in Kalipanawela village, Koslanda as continuing heavy rains worsened the risks as dusk fell on Monday (11 December).
A hilly area spreading over 200 acres in the Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat area has been earmarked for evacuation in view of aggravating rainfalls in the area. Earlier, several houses were completely damaged due to landslides, prompting evacuation of occupants of all the houses around the threatened locations.
Accordingly, Major General R.M.M Ranasinghe WWV RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division, along with several Senior Officers visited the location and took measures for evacuation of civilians in vulnerable areas.
