11 Division Marks Its 8th Anniversary

Kandy-based 11 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-Cen) marked its 8th anniversary on Wednesday (15).

A series of commemorative events were organized to celebrate the 11 Division anniversary programme during 14-20 February.

The anniversary programme was organized under the guidance of Major General Nishshanka Ranawana, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 11 Division and included several projects.

Offer of 'Gilanpasa' (beverage) to the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of Tooth Relic) followed a ‘Pooja’ in order to invoke blessings on the 11 Division flag on February (14). The following morning (15), milky food offerings to the Temple of Relic Tooth was conducted by the troops.

A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour presented by the 5 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops, greeted Major General Nishshanka Ranawana, GOC, 11 Division on Thursday (15) in keeping with military traditions, followed by an All Rank lunch at the 11 Division Headquarters.

An all-night Pirith chanting ceremony was organized on Monday (19) followed by a lunch (alms-giving) offered to 63 Buddhist monks, the following day (20).

Towards the end of the anniversary celebrations on Tuesday (20), on the instructions of GOC, 11 Division, 47 school children at Dharmashoka College, Lewella, Kandy were treated to a delicious lunch. Under the patronage of Major General Deepal Subasinghe (Rtd), the same group of school children received a pack of school uniforms and shoes during the same ceremony.
