The successive 10th edition of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force’s (SLAVF) project for distribution of financial grants, worth more than Rs 3 million among 46 students of SLAVF families under the ‘Viru Saviya’ insurance scheme of the Sri Lanka Insurance got underway at the SLAVF auditorium on Thursday (23 March), headed by Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commandant, SLAVF as the Chief Guest.
Those beneficiaries of SLAVF families who have been qualified to enter universities after they sat recent G.C. E (Advanced Level) examinations receive Rs 75000/= each under the ‘Viru Saviya’, Insuarance scheme, implemented by the Sri Lanka Insurance and this year's project was closely coordinated and supervised by Major General Thusitha Silva, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF.
Beneficiaries, qualified to receive those grants were selected by a special SLAVF board after interviewing parents, the Other Ranks of the SLAVF after examining documents of their qualifying sons and daughters.
Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commandant, SLAVF as the Chief Guest distributed those grants along with Mr Aloka Jayawardena, Chief Executive Officer, Information Technology, Mr Ravi Mendis, Senior Manager, Mr. Romendra Fernando, Assistant Manager and Chief Accountant of the Sri Lanka Insurance after inviting those recipients on stage.
A large gathering, including senior officers and officers, invitees and parents of the beneficiaries joined the occasion to witness the symbolic award of financial grants to the children at the Headquarters.
The welcome remarks were delivered by Brigadier M.D.B.M.S Jayamanne, SLAVF Brigadier Administration and the proceedings of the ceremony were coloured with entertaining features and cultural events.
Addressing the gathering, the SLAVF Commandant extended best wishes to the beneficiaries congratulating them and praised all organizers for arrangements made in this connection for the best interest of those children who are now ready to become scholars. All beneficiaries, parents and invitees during refreshments interacted and shared thoughts with the SLAVF Commandant and others.
