1 SLNG Troops Educated on ‘Human Rights & International Humanitarian Law’

1 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 143 Infantry Brigade of the Security Force HQ-West organized a three-day workshop on ‘Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law’ during 16-18 May 2023 at the 1 Sri Lanka National Guard camp premises, aiming to educate the Officers and Other Ranks on various aspects of Human Rights and the International Humanitarian Law.

Major R.M.C.M. Siriwardana, Captain K. H. N. Wijepala, and Mr W. Wasantha, Chief Inspector of Wariyapola Police Station contributed to the three-day sessions. Principles of human dignity, non-discrimination, and respect for human life were among subjects that were covered during the workshop with focus on the role of International Humanitarian Law in armed conflict, as well as the rights of prisoners of war and civilians in times of war.

More than 100 troops of the 1 Sri Lanka National Guard, including Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the workshop.
