1 SLAGSC Detachment - Kuttigala Reaps its First Paddy Harvest Following Ancient Practices

The age-long traditions, rites and rituals, associated with paddy-harvesting season were brought back to life once again and followed closely when troops of the 1 Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) Detachment at Kuttigala - Padalangala on Saturday (12) assembled to harvest fields, ploughed and sown by 1 SLAGSC troops in line with the 'Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak' project of the Commander of the Army.

A gathering of school students, representatives of the Padalangala Divisional Secretariat, Mahaweli Development Authority, Department of Agrarian Services, local farming communities and societies, officers and other ranks actively joined the typical harvesting ceremony, following arrangements, made by Captain B.S.S.C Weerakoon, Officer Commanding of the 1 SLAGSC Detachment at Kuttigala - Padalangala.

Lieutenant Colonel C.S Demuni, Commanding Officer, 1 SLAGSC as the Chief Guest joined the harvesting ceremony and began reaping in the company of Officers and Other Ranks after religious observances. The entire process of reaping, stacking, threshing, grinding and cooking of the harvest was exhibited at the location with live demonstrations, presented by troops.
