1 Corps Commander Undertakes Formal Visit to 53 Division

The Commander 1 Corps, Major General Harendra Ranasinghe made his maiden visit to the 53 Division after the establishment of 1 Corps the Army, the highest all time ready tactical formation of the Sri Lanka Army.

The 53 Division Headquarters welcomed the visiting Commander, 1 Corps and saluted him in a drive-past Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Major General Sanjeewa Fernando, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division received the visiting Commander 1 Corps and introduced Brigade Commanders, Divisional Staff, Commanding Officers and other staff serving under the Division. He was also invited to leave memories by planting a Sandalwood sapling inside the office complex.

After a comprehensive briefing conducted by all Commanding Officers in Brigades and Battalions, he was educated on the present deployment and operational readiness of the Divisional troops. The visiting Commander 1 Corps addressed the troops in the Division at the Corporals’ Club before he signed the Visitors’ Book in the camp. Major General Harendra Ranasinghe towards the end of the visit was awarded a memento by the GOC, 53 Division.
