‘Ranaviru Commemoration’ Period Formally Begins

The launch of the ‘Ranaviru Flag’ sale, prior to the commencement of the forthcoming War Heroes’ Commemoration Month - 2019 took place this morning (5) by pinning the first flag on HE the President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s Secretariat.

HE the President at the same occasion declared the year 2019 as the ‘Ranaviru Commemoration Year’ to coincide with the completion of a decade after eradication of LTTE terrorism from the soil.

Major General J.J.P.S.T Liyanage (Retd), Chairperson, Ranaviru Seva Authority (RVSA) inaugurating the period of remembrance pinned the first ‘Ranaviru’ Flag in the presence of Hon. State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene, Hon. Wijedasa Rajapaksha & Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera Members of Parliament, Governors, Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders.

On the same occasion, Governors in provinces handed over cash collections, made through sale of Ranaviru flags in the previous year to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. President in return delivered those ‘Ranaviru’ Flags for the year 2019 to the Governors who were present.

The ‘Ranaviru’ commemoration period formally commences today (5) and will continue until 5 June 2019 to culminate with several highlights towards the end of the month.

War Heroes’ commemoration period pays gratitude to the memory of all fallen War Heroes who sacrificed their lives and limbs during the humanitarian operation to end the three-decade long terrorism in the country before May 2009.
