Practical demonstration plus workshops, meant for Search and Rescue teams of the 21 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-Wanni were held near Galpalama, near Malwathu Oya in Anuradhapura during 5-17 November with the objective of imparting knowledge to troops on emergency flood rescue operations and disaster response methods in the event of any major flooding in the area due to torrential rains that continue to wreak havoc.
The team of trainers from the Gampola Disaster Response Training Centre of the Army included 8 instructors and the training module consisted of lectures, demonstrations and practical sessions, related to basic disaster relief actions, identification of tidal waves, first aid and life-saving techniques in a flood situation, rescue of a person drowning and fetching the person for safely, operating of motorboats, etc.
8 Officers and 160 Other Ranks from all under-command Battalions in the Division took part in workshop sessions.
