‘Arrya Foundation’ Supports GW's 'Udarai Oba' Project

The Regimental Centre, Gemunu Watch (GW) under its 'Udarai Oba' scheme joined hands with the ‘Arrya Foundation’ to receive support for one of its ‘Development of Mental, Moral and Health Values’ workshops and a donation programme that got underway at the Regimental Centre Auditorium in Kuruwita, Ratnapura on Saturday (27).

The project, designed in order to identify capabilities and innate talents largely of the disabled and others, and also the promotion of their moral values was implemented on a proposal, made by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Dampath Fernando who is also the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army.

During the day's itinerary, the ‘Arrya Foundation’ after the workshop donated 100 pairs of crutches, 20 sets of commodes, a television and novels to the GW library for use of disabled War Heroes in the Gemunu Watch. 'Arrya Foundation’ has sponsored the donation and the day's programme.

More than forty ‘Arrya’ members contributed to the event, including General Shantha Kottegoda (Rtd), one of the former Army Commanders, now an Executive Officer in the ‘Arrya Foundation’, Chairman, Arrya Foundation, Charith Kiriella, Deputy Executive Officer and veteran actor, Bandu Samarasinghe, Douglas Ranasinghe, Prof. Ariyarathna Kaluarachchi, Mrs. AschArrya Peiris, several professionals and businessmen.

At the end of the ceremony Brigadier Jayampathy Thilakaratne, Centre Commandant gave away mementos to the former Army Commander and members of the ‘Arrya Foundation’ in appreciation of their assistance to this valuable event.

A few minutes later, the visitors recalled the memories of fallen War Heroes by placing floral wreaths at the Gemunu Regiment war memorial premises.

Those visitors also paid a visit to the GW Museum before they joined a fellow lunch at the officers' mess.

More than fifty Officers, including the Centre Commandant, Senior and Junior Officers with more than 600 Other Ranks participated in the day's proceedings.
