'Derana Dream Star' First Runner-Up Receives Promotion

THE SOLDIER, Private N.U Manoj Kumara of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC), emerged the first runner-up in the recently concluded ‘Derana Dream Star’ singing competition and received a promotion to the rank of Lance Corporal.    

Lance Corporal Manoj Kumara since he joined the Army in 2006 has taken part in a number of musical competitions and was inducted to the SLAOC music band when his talents were identified by his superiors in the Regiment.

With the approval of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, he jumped on the musical bandwagon, beat 47,100 contestants and entered the grand finale to emerge finally as the first runner-up in the recently concluded, ‘Derana Dream Star’ musical extravaganza.

He has been supported widely by fellow-Army personnel around the country in addition to the public who sent SMS (short messages) in his favour as the final round of the competition got underway a few weeks ago. 

Colonel Commandant, SLAOC, impressed with his musical performances promoted him to the rank of Lance Corporal in appreciation when he returned to his work after his achievement in the competition.
