'Dagoba' Built by Army Troops Unveiled at Ceremony in Mullaittivu

The towering and attractive Dagoba (Pagoda), erected by 591 Brigade troops in Mullaittivu was unveiled recently after placing sacred relics and a valuable pinnacle (Kotha) atop it.

591 Brigade troops under 59 Division, on the directions of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) undertook the responsibility for erecting this structure, a long-felt need in this temple premises, quite close to the SFHQ-MLT under the auspices of Ven Etambagaskada Sri Kalyanithissa Nayaka Thero, Deputy Chief Sangha Nayaka for Northern Province.

Mr Nihal Weerawardena, domiciled in Switzerland provided sponsorship for the construction as a tribute to the memory of all War Heroes who salvaged the country from the cycle of terrorism that affected the country for more than 30 years.

Commander, SFHQ-MLT, accompanied by Dr Lalith Chandradasa, Presidential Adviser and the Military Secretary attended opening ceremonies.

A colourful Perahera commenced from the Wadduwakal junction carried the relics and the pinnacle for placement.

A large gathering of leading Buddhist monks in the area, senior officers, sponsors and devotees took part in the arrangements.
