  • Fighting the Globalised Tiger

    THESE closing climactic weeks of the conventional war have been accompanied by tremendous external pressure on the Sri Lankan state. This has its upside because it illuminates. It reveals to us the world as it is and how it might be. It tells us who our friends are. It tells us also who our enemy’s friends are. It educates us as to what we must and must not do, including in the coming weeks and days. Here is the rude reality. There is a three pronged campaign to save the Tiger. One is mounted from within the overseas Tamil community, the dominant pro-Tiger/pro-Tamil Eelam stream having developed into a global movement.

  • Tigers' Two more Anti - Aircraft Guns in Army Hands

    MULLAITTIVU: TWO more anti aircraft Guns belonging to Tiger terrorists along with a few more weapons and ammunition were found by the troops during a search and clear operation in newly-captured KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAI area on Sunday (10). Both weapons of six barrels with 27 mm caliber, mounted on two double cabs had been left behind by terrorists as the troops were rolling onto the area a few days ago.

  • Tigers Prevent Civilian Exodus as Things in NSZ Get Tense

    MULLAITTIVU: TIGER terrorists, cornered to the newly-demarcated ‘New Safety Zone’ (NSZ) in KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAI, have begun a massive inhuman push against civilians trying to escape since this morning (11), prompting the troops to enter the NSZ. Reports said as the numbers under LTTE detention in the remaining NSZ have been turning restless and aggressive, irate Tigers went on infusing fear into those civilians while firing at random, making trapped civilians to run amok.

  • Five more Tigers Including Minors Surrender

    MULLAITTIVU: FOUR underage boys and one twenty-four year old youth who had once served in the LTTE terrorist organization as fighting cadres Monday (11) afternoon surrendered to the Army. Those five LTTE boys who managed to escape the LTTE grip from the ‘New Safe Zone’ disguised as ordinary escapees have confessed to be from the terrorist organization after they arrived in the KARIYAMULLIVAIKKAL area this afternoon (11).

    MORE and more startling recoveries, being made by valiant Army troops from the newly-captured areas in the former PUTUMATTALAN ‘No Fire Zone’ assert that Tiger terrorists in reality were flexing muscles not only to carve out a separate ‘Eelam’ for them, but also for domination of the entire Sri Lanka, thus becoming a potential danger to the whole of the South Asian region. Look at what troopers, attached to 6 Gajaba Regiment in the 53 Division captured, from KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAI area as they marched into the last land patch of the terrorists during the weekend. Military hardware including three anti aircraft guns (AAG), one more huge armoured plate truck, one earth-moving Bachoe machine, one water scooter and AAG ammunition rounds.

  • Tigers Conduct Three Suicide Missions

    MULLAITTIVU: TIGER terrorists, operating inside the “New Safety Zone” (NFZ) in KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL conducted three suicide missions Tuesday (12) within a matter of three hours as the troops were inching into the area. Conscious of the civilian factor, troops slowly but steadily started moving in after late Monday (11) evening with a view to rescuing trapped civilians who have been forced to remain there by terrorists. 

  • UN Spokesman to be Questioned on Adverse Remarks

    DISASTER Management Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe yesterday (11) said the UN Spokesman in Sri Lanka Gordon Weiss would be summoned to the Foreign Ministry over his comment to the media that there was a bloodbath in the No Fire Zone. Addressing a news conference at the Presidential Secretariat Samarasinghe said "It is not the first time that Weiss has gone beyond his mandate and made adverse remarks about the internal strife in the country. We have every right to deal with him."

  • Catholic Bishops Meet President, Pledge Support to Govt Relief Efforts

    A DELEGATION of Catholic Bishops and representatives of Caritas-Sedec led by Archbishop of Colombo Most Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis met President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday evening and pledged their full support to the Government's program of providing relief to the Vanni civilians who have left the LTTE held territory, a President's Office spokesperson told the Daily News. The delegation included among others Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa Rev. Dr. Kingsley Swamipilai, Bishop of Chilaw.....
