CHINESE Ambassador in Sri Lanka Ms. Yang Xiuping paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka Wednesday (6) afternoon at his office in the Army Headquarters. Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka after extending a warm welcome briefed her on the status quo in relation to the final phase of the humanitarian rescue operation and measures that have been in place in the ‘No Fire Zone’ for receipt of them.
THE PUBLIC should remain vigilant as the LTTE may launch sudden attacks in any part of the country during the Vesak festive season, the Defence Ministry warned yesterday. “There is a possibility that the LTTE which is now desperate in its hour of defeat may launch sudden attacks in any part of the island,” the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said. It said that in this context, is essential that the public be extra vigilant about security. It is a common sight that large crowds visit Colombo and suburban towns for sightseeing and to engage in meritorious activities organized to mark the Vesak festival.
PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa has invited the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to Sri Lanka to see for himself the situation regarding the action for the accommodation and treatment of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who have recently come to Government controlled areas in such large numbers, and plans for their resettlement. In the invitation made during the course of a telephone conversation between the President and the UN Secretary General on the evening of May 5, the President has also told the UN Secretary General that he would then be able to make a better assessment of the conditions faced by the Tamil civilians still held hostage by the LTTE in a small stretch of the Civilian Safety Zone.
MULLAITTIVU: TROOPS fighting out in the south of KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL in the remaining strip of land in the ‘No Fire Zone’ captured what was supposed to be the LTTE’s “last earth bund” Thursday (7) morning after a string of pitched battles. Troops in the 58 Division amidst stiff LTTE resistance and the enemy’s detonation of explosive devices hit the last LTTE earth bund and dominated it. Several valiant soldiers sustained injuries in the fighting that broke out in the wee hours.
COORDINATOR of the World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka (WAPS) Jivinda De Silva said the Government should fully involve itself in countering the LTTE's sophisticated disinformation machine overseas. Jivinda De Silva, a Sri Lankan who has been living in the United States for more than 3 decades said the pro LTTE elements in the US were among the main fundraisers of the Hillary and Obama campaigns. He was speaking at a seminar organized by the WAPS at the BMICH under the theme of Continuing Struggle with the LTTE diaspora and their sympathizers abroad.
THE CONFLICT between the Sri Lankan Government and the Tigers has deep, tangled roots. But to a rough order of magnitude, the moral stakes can be reduced to a single act of terrorist savagery that took place on July 29, 1999 - the day Neelan Tiruchelvam was blown out the side of his Nissan sedan by a female suicide bomber riding a moped. Tiruchelvam was a Sri Lankan Tamil, but not the kind that makes excuses for terrorism, or for the nihilistic death cult led by Tiger's chief Velupillai Pirapaharan. Instead, he sought to bring justice and self-determination for Sri Lanka's Tamil.....
THE LTTE is in shambles. Their glorious army has been shattered. They have lost all their territory and are running for their lives. How on earth did this happen to such a ruthless fighting force, led by a master-strategist like Velupillai Prabhakaran? Surely it can't be anything the Sri Lankans have done - they've been fighting without success against the guerrilla group for decades. Why, even the Indian Army couldn't do much against these suicidal guys. No, the blame for the LTTE's great debacle lies squarely on the well-padded shoulders of Prabhakaran himself.....

Those who enjoyed making lucrative business, routine foreign tours while seeking years of asylum in the Western countries sanitizing a terrorist cause may be extremely disturbed by the unraveling dark corners of Prabhakaran's ‘deeva’ life style. Had the Army failed to bring the LTTE terrorists down to its knees, these images which revealed the duplicity of its terror leader Prabhakaran would never have come to the public domain.
MULLAITTIVU: EYEBROWS were raised when the troops dominating areas deep down in IRATTAVAIKKAL after terrorists were evicted, came across one more huge monstrous cylindrical metal structure, identical to a device that enables to live underwater. (See photos).Tigers appeared to have been weilding the structure just before the troops rolled in, as all the hallmarks confirmed. This 360-ft long and 25 ft wide structure, apparently compartmentalized into three major sections, i.e. front (engine), office and the rear (relatively bigger), has been made of strong iron, and set on iron rails, like a railway carriage. In addition, a huge 300 ft-long canal with 30 ft deep water that leads to the seas beyond, has been dug touching this underwater structure, enabling it to float directly into the seas at any given time after induction. A few rotor blades that had been kept dismantled and hidden by terrorists were also found by the troops.

Here is the full text of his message; “On this sacred Vesak Full Moon day (8th May) when Thrice Blessed Day is commemorated by all Sri Lankan Buddhists, let me extend my best wishes too to all officers, other ranks, civil staff and their families by wishing them a very happy Vesak, filled with peace, spiritual emancipation and loving kindness as taught in Buddhism.
