  • Colombo Sleuths Uncover LTTE Satellite Antenna

    MANNAR: A five - member team of sleuths from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Monday (04) rushed to MANNAR and detected a powerful satellite antenna that had been kept buried in fertilizer bags to be sent to Tiger terrorists in the north. Investigators on information given by an informant uncovered dismantled accessories and spares of this most modern satellite antenna from ERUKKULAMPIDDI area in the presence of the Police when they had been kept neatly buried in five large fertilizer bags. 

  • Tigers' Sinhala Language Trg Center Traced

    MULLAITTIVU: LTTE terrorists-run Sinhala Language Training center cum Sinhala cultural center inside the eastern PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU jungles, used very much for training of LTTE suicide cadres, has been found by 57 Division troops while they were expanding their search operations further deep into the area. Sinhala Language books for primary learning, photos from ANURADHAPURA, POLONNARUWA, MATARA, HAMBANTOTA, MAHIYANGANAYA and COLOMBO areas, copy writing and exercise books, and a stock of Sinhala audio cassettes with two blackboards containing Sinhala letters were collected from this complex during this search.

  • 'Ranaviru Fund' Patriots Donate Medical Equipment to Army

    SRI LANKAN patriots run “Ranaviru Fund” organization with the help of contributions received from patriotic Sri Lankans around the world recently donated valuable medical equipment worth over Rs. 1.3 million to the Colombo Military Hospital. The donated equipment included a defibrillator, a pulse Oximeter and a Cardiac-patient monitor are to be commissioned shortly in the new Operation Theatre at the Military Hospital.

  • War Heroes Month Starts Tomorrow (7)

    A RANAWIRU wrist band and a miniature flag will be presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa tomorrow at Temple Trees to commemorate War Heroes Month from May 07 to June 07. Addressing the media yesterday at the MCNS, Additional Secretary Defence Ministry Willie Gamage said it is important to pay respect to soldiers who sacrificed their lives or were disabled in protecting the country from terrorists for over 25 years. Therefore, War Heroes Month will be held from May 07 to June 07 to respect the war heroes. He observed that many programs and activities including religious ceremonies will be held to commemorate the War Heroes Month.

  • Intermittent Confrontations Injure more Terrorists

    MULLAITTIVU: TIGER terrorists, now confined to a mere land stretch of about 5 km in the ‘No Fire Zone’ (NFZ) with the intention of blocking troop movements went on directing fire on the troops inside the NFZ during Tuesday (5). It is believed at least a dozen of Tigers suffered death or injury during these clashes.   • Tamils' Grievances; Top Level Committee to Address Problems

    PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to appoint a special committee comprising members of Tamil political parties to look into the problems of the Tamil community. This decision was arrived at a meeting, the President had with the representatives of the Tamil political parties at Temple Trees yesterday. The meeting was convened at the request of Tamil political parties to discuss the problems faced by the Tamil community. This special committee is particularly assigned to look into the needs of civilians fleeing from the terrorists. The problems faced by the Tamil people in the North will also be looked into by this committee.

  • $20M in Tiger Weapons Seized

    KILINOCHCHI, Sri Lanka — For a decade, Kilinochchi was a rebel capital, the hub of a vast swath of northern Sri Lanka that was controlled by the Tamil Tigers guerrillas. In January, the town fell to government troops and now a small Sri Lankan flag flies in the town centre amid idle transit buses, flattened buildings and shuttered shops. "They never expected us to reach Kilinochchi and capture it," said Major-General Jagath Dais, commander of the Sri Lankan Army’s 57 Division.

  • Prabhakaran Trapped Within Four sq km - PM

    PRIME Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka told Parliament yesterday that intelligence reports revealed that LTTE leader Prabhakaran remained trapped within a four square km strap in the No Fire Zone on which Security Forces have now laid siege.  “The State intelligence services have confirmed that Prabhakaran is in this area and Security Forces have taken all possible steps to ensure he won’t get away,” the Premier said moving the motion to extend the emergency regulations by another one month.

  • Little Anulians Show Their Warmth to War Heroes

    THE TUTORIAL staff and budding students at Nugegoda Anula Vidyalaya, mindful of invaluable sacrifices, being made by valiant Army soldiers for the sake of the Motherland, offered their share of goodwill and loving-kindness by way of donating twenty-five sets of artificial limbs during a brief ceremony on Tuesday (5). The school atmosphere retained a look of respect, admiration, chivalry and solemnity as disable Army soldiers got off their bus and entered the venue of the ceremony.  Mrs. S.N Malaviarachchi, principal and the staff in the company of students who have been instrumental in raising funds for the manufacture of those limbs received Lt. Colonel Dr. Ariyarathna, Head, Orthopedic section in the Ragama Ranaviru Sevana (Rehabilitation center for handicapped War Heroes) and Coordinator for the project, Mrs. Nilanthi Silva, a senior member of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch and War Hero recipients of limbs with open arms on arrival at the school premises. Ven. Bogambara Rathanajothi Thero, Incumbent, Sri Dhammaramaya, Nugegoda delivered a special ‘Anusasana’ (oration) on the occasion highlighting the special importance of this donation at this hour of our history.
