    Sri Lanka Army, the most-sought service provider and much-admired Defender of the Nation is 64 years old on October 10, 2013. Founded in 1949 as ‘Ceylon Army’, but changed to be called the Sri Lanka Army in 1972 after Ceylon became a Republic, is one of the most respected, if not the most admired service provider of the country in the post-war scenario after its unmatched victorious achievements in the humanitarian operations that eradicated the scourge of terrorism in May 2009.

The series of anniversary ceremonies that began in the final week of September, giving pride of place to religious observances at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Kirivehera, Kataragma Devalaya.....

  • Message of The Commander of The Army on Army Day & 64th Anniversary


    Having unified the entire Sri Lanka as members of a proud Army which eradicated the 30-year long ruthless war, we are now partners of the ongoing ‘war for economic liberation’ that would take Sri Lanka to prosperity. At the time we mark the 64th anniversary as a dignified organization, let me first of all, pay my tribute to the memory of all those who departed, went missing, became disable and all officers and other ranks who have served with the utmost dedication and commitment for the betterment of the organization. As the 20th Commander of the Army, I feel privileged to have been able to issue this message on this special milestone of our organization. 
     
     
  • Army-Produced World Class Athletes & Their Coach Fèted


    Achievements of the world-class Javelin Throw athlete, Warrant Officer-1 B.L. Nadeeka Lakmali of 4 Battalion (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) who secured the world’s 12th rank, having entered the final round at the recent IAAF World Athletics Championship and Sergeant Maduranga who shone in Javelin Throw at the recent Asian Championship.....
  • New Zealand Expatriates Help 'Abimansala - 3'

    Adding symbolic significance and importance to the Army Day (October 10), United Sri Lanka Association of New Zealand (USLANZ), comprising Sri Lankan expatriates, made a donation of Rs 7 lakhs towards the Seva Vanitha Army Branch’s (SVAB) ‘Brave Hearts’ project, engaged in the construction of ‘Abimansala – 3' (wellness resort) for dependent War Heroes at Pangolla, Kurunegala.
  • Football Training Given to Youngsters


    Troops of 24 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) in Sinhapura under 233 Brigade of 23 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) conducted a football training workshop for youngsters in Sevanapitiya area. It was organized with a view to promoting sports interest among students and youngsters in the area. More than 45 players from different sports clubs and schools took part in the workshop.
  • Halmillawetiya Vidyalaya Students Get Support


    Negombo South International School’s Nittambuwa Branch took a large stock of school accessories, including exercise books, school bags, etc to the value of Rs 250,000/= for distribution among students at Halmillawetiya Vidyalaya in the remote Kebithigollewa in Anuradhapura District. The donation to mark the 6th anniversary of this school contained 180 gift parcels, in addition to a stock of sports items.
  • Army Rowers (Men & Women) Carry Away Championships in Both Tournaments


    Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in coordination with the Bolgoda Rowing Club, organized the Indoor Rowing Tournament for 3rd time at KDU during October 4 - 5. Major General M.P. Peiris, Vice Chancellor, KDU and Chairman of Sri Lanka Rowing Club as the chief guest of the inauguration ceremony and Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Commander.....
