  • KP Exposes LTTE Friends

    VITAL information relating to persons and organizations here and abroad who had provided assistance to the LTTE in an extensive scale during its hey day have been revealed by LTTE leader Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP who is now in Sri Lanka's custody, said Foreign Employment and Welfare Minister and Government Defence spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday. Pathmanathan who is now under intense interrogation has also divulged clues about LTTE arms procurement, narcotics trade and gun running activities, Rambukwella said.

  • First Lady Takes Gifts to Vavuniya Children

    THE First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa along with wives of Senior Military officers visited Vavuniya on Monday (10) and donated bank deposit books containing Rs.75,000/= each among the children living in the “Siriliya Sevana”  children’s home in Vavuniya. Mrs. Rajapaksa also distributed a stock of gift parcels among those inmates, most of who are without their parents. Wanni Security Forces Commander Major General MK Jayawardana and several other Army and police senior officers were present on the occasion.  

  • Australian High Commissioner Pays Courtesy Call on Commander

    AUSTRALIAN High Commissioner for Sri Lanka Ms. Kathy Klugman Tuesday (11) morning paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at his office in the Army Headquarters, Colombo. During their meeting, Army Commander briefed the Australian High Commissioner on current security concerns in the country after the defeat of LTTE terrorism. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya also gave her an account of security operations that led to the defeat of LTTE terrorism. Ms. Kathy Klugman was the Deputy High Commissioner for Australia in Sri Lanka during the year 1998.   

  • LTTE's Claymore Packed Van Apprehended After Arrests

    MANNAR: POLICE teams dispatched from Colombo after  information elicited from an arrested Tiger terrorist took into custody a Hi Ace van, laden with twenty claymore mines of 5 kg each Tuesday (11) morning when it had remained covered up in MANNAR. Reports confirmed two LTTE supporters who had broken ranks with the former LTTE organization had been loitering in various spots in Colombo when the Mt. Lavinia Police on Monday (10) evening swooped on them, suspicious of their behaviour.  

  • Hindu Priests Invoke Blessings on Commander

    COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, in accordance with traditions, received the blessings of Hindu deities on Tuesday (11) during a special pooja held at the Captain’s Garden Hindu Kovil in Maradana. This is the first time, the newly appointed Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya made his offerings to the Hindu Shrine upon his assumption of duties as 19th Commander of the Army.   

  • Civilians Receive Gifts from Army

    TROOPS of the 5th Artillery Regiment that comes under 522 Brigade in Jaffna distributed five hundred parcels of soap, powder, towels and tooth paste, etc among civilians in Ramavil welfare camp in Jaffna recently. Those items were collected by the officers and soldiers of the 5th Artillery Regiment. Brigade Commander 522 Brigade Colonel D.M.S.B Bandara and several other officers and soldiers were associated with the occasion. 

  • LTTE Assassinated Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar Remembered

    THE 4th death anniversary of a great son of Sri Lanka late Foreign Minister Mr. Lakshman Kadirgamar falls on 12th August. He was killed by a sniper bullet of an LTTE terrorist at his residence in Colombo 7 on the night of 12th August 2005. He stood firmly against LTTE terrorism and remained committed to a united Sri Lanka without fearing all the threats, posed by Tiger terrorists against him. Mr. Lakshman Kadirgamar, the exemplary statesman par excellence tirelessly undertook the task of combating the world’s most ruthless terrorist organization as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Sri Lanka.....

  • Military Funeral of Former Commander on Saturday

    GENERAL G.D.G.N (Nalin) Seneviratne VSV, the former Commander of the Army (1985-1988) who passed away this morning (12) was the 10th Commander of the Army. His funeral with full military honours is to take place on Saturday (15) at the General Cemetery, Borella, Colombo. He was seventy-eight years of age at the time of his demise. 

  • Pistols & Boat Engines among Recovered LTTE Items

    WANNI & EAST: TROOPS continued search and clear operations in the general areas of PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU, AMPAKAMAM, KALAMANKULAM and PIRIPPU on Tuesday (11) and recovered ten T-56 weapons, one 81 mm mortar trap, one thousand one hundred and eleven rounds of T-56 ammunition, thirteen hand grenades, one pencil shooting weapon, one hundred and ten .22 rounds.....

  • No Rest in Hunt for LTTE Remnants - Dr. Kohona

    FOREIGN Secretary Dr.Palitha Kohona said KP's arrest will not relax Sri Lanka's hunt on LTTE remnants operating in the international front. "No, we are not going to relax until we get all of them," he said when asked if the arrest of the LTTE's International Head and Chief Procurement Officer Kumaran Pathmanathan better known as KP gave some breathing space for the Sri Lankan officials because they have got their 'prize-catch'.
