  • Tiger Leader, Deputy Arrested

    AN LTTE leader and his deputy were arrested by the anti-terrorist unit of the Vavuniya Police, while they were in the company of a young pregnant girl, according to reports from Vavuniya Police. Identified as Keenan and Kannawan, they were arrested at Pesalai in Mannar. When Police arrested them they were in possession of two claymore mines, two T-56 weapons, five magazines and 142 rounds of ammunition. One of them was an LTTE leader of Pammpaimadu and when he was arrested he was in the company of a 13-year-old girl who Police said was pregnant. The other LTTE cadre was in the company of an 18-year-old girl. Both girls in their statement to Police had said that they were abducted and forcibly kept by the two LTTE cadres.

  • Nine Indicted with Funding LTTE

    THE Attorney General has filed indictment against nine persons for granting Rs. 35 million to the LTTE from the funds of the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation in 2006. The Attorney General filed indictment against Velupillai Sivanadiar, Murugesu Shanmugarajah, Kanthilingam Prem Raj, Kathirakesu Ganeshalingam, Sinnaiyah Shanthilingam, Eliyathambi Nadarajah, Krishna Kutti Sukumaran alias Udayan, Balasubramunium Sri Scandarajah, and Kamalias Prabakaran before the Colombo High Court.

  • The International Community and Their Agenda on Sri Lanka

    FOR a long time, I entertained the thought that this intense criticism, of Sri Lanka’s campaign against terrorism, by the Western powers on grounds of ‘discrimination’ and ‘human rights violations’ was due to neo liberal Western attitudes on secularism. I was also aware that there was a massive disinformation campaign against Sri Lanka in general and Sinhalese in particular by the Tamil Diaspora mounted from as early as 1960’s. But the events of 9/11 should have helped change much of the Western perceptions about terrorism. It not only exposed the sheer destructive and dehumanized nature inherent in terrorism but also made the pervasive and domineering character of the terrorist amply clear.

    WANNI: DURING search and clear operations conducted by the Army in the general areas of PULIYANPOKKANAI, VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL and PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU on Monday (29), forty-six hand grenades, twenty-four Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG),  three RPG launchers, eight RPG chargers, nine claymore mines, four anti tank mines, one smoke bomb, thirty-four rounds of .50 ammunition, one I-com set, one suicide kit, three 60 mm illumination rounds, one thousand four hundred and fifty-five rounds of T-56 ammunition, three Improvised Explosive.....

  • Troops Led to Unearth Two more LTTE Torpedoes

    MULLAITTIVU: A METICULOUSLY pre-planned LTTE sea battle that was to be staged against Security Forces by terrorists during the just-ended Eelam War - IV was exposed Monday (29) evening when Task Force-8 troops unearthed two big LTTE torpedoes with their launcher from PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU area on information provided by a former LTTE cadre. The two torpedoes, each 26 ft in length and 5 ft 7 inches in circumference remained neatly wrapped in polythene when the troops made this startling recovery. The torpedo’s launcher of 28 ft in length and 5 ft 10 inch in circumference.....

  • Australia Hunts for Lankan Tigers in Boat

    FEARS that LTTE fighters may attempt to pass themselves off as refugees will lead to the latest boatload of unauthorized arrivals in Australia -- believed to be Tamils -- being subjected to a particularly rigorous security screening process, The Australian newspaper reported yesterday.The newspaper was told the recent defeat of the Tamil Tigers in their stronghold in northeastern Sri Lanka had led to concerns that Tamil fighters might seek to flee the country amid fears of government retribution. Tamils are understood to comprise most of the 194 asylum-seekers who arrived at Christmas Island.....

  • Security Forces to be Strengthened by 50,000

    ANOTHER 50,000 personnel will be recruited to the Security Forces to maintain the administrative areas liberated from the LTTE. Addressing the media at the Media Centre for National Security yesterday, Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the LTTE had been holding and controlling over 600 sq km in the North and the Vanni, as well as 2/3 of the coast.“All these areas were liberated and the LTTE administration.....

    WANNI & EAST: ONE more massive stock of LTTE weaponry and explosives was collected by the troops during search and clear operations conducted in the general areas of PULLIYANPOKKANAI, MURUSUMODDAI, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU east, THANDIKULAM, VISUAMADU, IRANAMADU, MANKULAM, AMPAKAMAM, ALANKULAM and OLUMADU on Tuesday (30). One Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) weapon, two RPG tripods, forty RPG bombs, thirteen RPG rounds, ten RPG chargers, eight claymore mines, twelve rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, 55 kg of TNT explosives, 15 kg of C-4 explosives....

  • Department Work in North Reviewed

    SENIOR Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa (MP) who conducts the Northern development programmes under “Uthuru Wasanthaya” had a discussion on ongoing development and rehabilitation work at the Wanni Security Forces Headquarters in Vavuniya on Tuesday (30). The discussion was headed by Security Forces Commander Wanni (SFHQ-W) Major General Jagath Jayasuriya.  It was attended by the Security Forces Commanders of Kilinochchi.....

  • Troops Uncover LTTE Thermo Baric Weapon & Diving Equipment

    WANNI: ARMY troops, now busy clearing general areas surrounding PUTUKUDIRIPPU EAST, PUTHUKUDIRIPPU WEST and VELLAMULLAIVAIKKAL areas came across an explosive-laden LTTE water scooter with diving accessories and found a massive stock of military items on Wednesday (01). Those items included one water-scooter, filled with 22 Kg of C-4 explosives,  one thermo baric weapon four twin barrels, eleven Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, two unusable RPG bombs,  three RPG chargers, one Improvised Explosive Device (IED), two claymore mines, six unusable claymore mines, seventeen Hand Grenades, five unusable Hand Grenades,  forty seven 81mm mortar bombs, one 81mm illuminating bombs, two 84mm HE mortar bombs, three hundred and fifty 60mm bombs, two hundred and thirty-five 60mm mortar fuses, ninety cartridges....
