  • SVAB's Waste Paper Recycling Project to be Inaugurated

    Plans are afoot by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) to launch a special project for re-cycling of waste paper, set aside in all Army formations across the country on a proposal made by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army to the SVAB. Proceeds from the environmental friendly project, to be realized in the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (5 Recce) Pangolla Ironside camp premises.....

  • North-East Medal Awarded to Signal Corps War Heroes

     
    Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) Regiment recently awarded the ‘North-East Humanitarian Operation’ Medal to a segment of its War Heroes during a special ceremony that took place at the SLSC Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda. President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces inaugurated the award of the same ‘North-East Humanitarian Operation Medal’ on 14 December 2010.....
     
  • Panagoda Army Cantonment Garbed with Vesak Decorations

    Panagoda Army cantonment decorated with multi-coloured Vesak lanterns and different other attractions during the recent Sambuddhatva Jayanthi commemoration, drew huge crowds. A large number of Vesak lanterns, crafted by troops of the Security Forces Headquarters, South consisted of creations, made of natural leaves, jute, bottles, plastic, paper, etc that depicted some life stories of the Buddha.
  • 9 SLNG troops Donate Water Pumping Scheme to Inuvil School

    9 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops serving Inuvil area in Jaffna with the support of donors from the South recently installed a water pumping scheme in the Puthumadam Roman Catholic Primary School premises as a token of goodwill and understanding. Hundreds of school children before the installation of the water pump used to quench their thirst drawing water from a deep well in the compound.
  • Sri Lanka Remembers the Role of Late De-miner, Dominique Morin (Momo)

     
    Mr. Dominique Morin (Momo), a French national (age 54) died in an accidental mine blast on 10 May 2010 in Kakayankulam after being admitted to the Vavuniya General Hospital. At the time of Momo’s demise, he was working for the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) in Sri Lanka as a Senior Technical Advisor. FSD is a Switzerland based international non-governmental organization.....

    The scintillating reality TV talent show of the year, ‘Ranaviru REAL Star’ where tri-service War Heroes display their non-military prowess and aesthetic talents, is to host its grand finale on Sunday (29) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.   • Much-Loved 'Snowy' after Tireless Tasks in Humanitarian Operations Bids Farewell to Army

     
    The Sri Lanka Army, which goes down in history as the only fighting force to have vanquished ruthless terrorism in the 21st century on Tuesday (May 24) saluted one of its much-loved brave tracker dogs, Snowy who died while recuperating after an LTTE grenade attack, sustained in Kambilioya, Welioya on 15 March 2008 during the peak of terrorism. It was the incumbent Commander of the Army, then as Commander, Security Forces, Wanni, despite tense and fast changing nature of ground battles and needs, took the initiative in the rush to airlift Snowy to Anuradhapura for medical consultations since Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya himself was the officer who introduced the tracker dog to the battlefield at that time.
