    His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the architect of the ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition, now on at Buttala for the 5th consecutive year visited the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police exhibition stalls last evening (5) in the company of Chief of Defence Staff, Army and Navy Commanders. President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his stay inside Tri-service stalls inquired into military exhibits and shared views with respective senior officers in charge of those stalls.   • 13th Army Contingent Leaves for UN Peace Keeping Missions

    THE 13th Sri Lanka Army contingent on UN Peace Keeping Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) left the island on 4th February for a period of six months. This 750 strong contingent from Gemunu Watch (GW) is to be commanded by Colonel H.P.N.K. Jayapathirana. The first group, comprised of 40 officers and 210 other ranks left for Haiti on 29th January. The final contingent left on staggered bases on February 1st and 4th.

  • Army Troops Give Away Their Own Daily Ration Packets To Flood Victims

    Treating them with generosity and magnanimity, East-based Army troops in their hundreds were extending their  humanitarian services further, offering their own food rations to flood victims as of Thursday (10) afternoon as per direct instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who has given a free hand to his troops to meet with the challenge.   • Army Troops Complete Repairs to 329 Flood Hit Tank Bunds Under SFHQ-W

    Ground troops of the Army under the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni, (SFHQ-W) taking full cognizance of the devastation caused by ravaging floods in Anuradhapura, Vavuniya and Mannar districts, have been able to repair and restore 329 tank bunds in the Anuradhapura district alone by Friday (11) morning with the support of respective civil authorities. Of them, more than 27 tank bunds with widths of about 20-50 meters, were completely destroyed in some instances....

  • SLLI & GR Disable Volleyball Teams Qualify For The Finals

    Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and Gajaba Regiment (GR) disable volleyball teams in the Army during the tournament organized by the Sri Lanka National Volleyball Federation for the Disable for selection of the best teams, qualified for the final round to be played on 25th February. The weekend tournament at Hanwella Western Sports Club ground was competed by nine Army teams and the Western Sports Academy for the S.M Chandrasena Challenge Trophy.

    Sri Lanka Army cricketers during a remarkable encounter with their counterparts at Wattala St. Anthony Sports Club recorded a resounding victory by 9 wickets during the Premier Trophy Cricket Tournament at Panagoda Army grounds. The annual tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, kicked off during three days on Feb 18, 19 and 20.
