  • Pakistan's Army Chief Arrives in Colombo on Goodwill Visit

    The four-star General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart, arrived in Sri Lanka Wednesday (19) afternoon on a three-day goodwill visit amidst beating of Magul Bera (auspicious drums). A traditional ceremonial reception at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, greeted the visiting Pakistan Army’s Chief of Army Staff General Parvez Kayani, Mrs Begum Zahida Kayani and the delegation.

  • Indian Air Force Chief Calls on Commander

    Chief of Air Staff of the Indian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik who is visiting Sri Lanka, Tuesday (18) morning called on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at Army Headquarters. At the entrance to the Commander’s Secretariat at Army Headquarters, he was warmly received and requested to inspect the Guard Turnout, in accordance with military traditions.

    The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) at Army Headquarters had the rare honour of welcoming the visiting Pakistan Army Chief’s spouse, Mrs. Begum Zahida Kayani during a series of receptions, hosted at SVAB Headquarters Thursday (20). Mrs Begum Zahida Kayani at the entrance to the SVAB office complex at Army Headquarters was warmly received by Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB with a fragrant bouquet of flowers.

  • General Parvez Kayani Meets DSCSC Undergraduates

    The final leg of the itinerary of the visiting General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army, commenced Friday (21) morning at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Sapugaskanda. General Parvez Kayani on arrival at the DSCSC at Sapugaskanda was warmly received by Commandant DSCSC Major General J.C Rambukpotha and conducted to the officers’ mess before commencement of the day’s programme.

  • First SVAB Pre-school in East Opened

    The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) sponsored first pre-school in the East was declared open Monday (24) morning at the 3 Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps camp premises at Minneriya Army cantonment. Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB, the livewire behind the expansion of educational opportunities among children of War Hero families with the support of her organization, graced the occasion as Chief Guest for the opening. This is the 8th pre-school to be run by the SVAB.
