  • Pre-school Receives Army Assistance


    The Ekamuthu pre-school, founded in the 62 Division area in Veherathennagama, Vavuniya where resettled people are living, received a large stock of office equipment, thanks to generosity of one Mr Kesara Randeniya on Monday (24). The stock was delivered to the pre-school during a brief ceremony headed by Major General Boniface Perera....... 


  • Trincomalee 'Dansela' Treats More Than 15,000 People


    Troops serving 221, 222, 223, 224 Brigades under 22 Division in Trincomalee served rice and curry, free of charge to all pedestrians around Anuradhapura Junction at Trincomalee on account of Poson Full Moon Poya Day (23). On the directions of Brigadier Aruna Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, more than 15,000 people of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim ethnicities were treated to meals. 

  • Kamburupitiya 'Abimansala 2' Inmates on Picnic to Kandy

    Inmates at the newly inaugurated ‘Abimansala 2’ at Kamburupitiya were taken on a picnic to Kandy area for two days (June 18-19), following arrangements, made by Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) on the instructions of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB. Organized by ‘Abimansala 2’ Commandant, those inmates, aided by staff members working there visited Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Sri Dalada Maligawa, Peradeniya Botanical Garden and a few other places of interest.

    Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, the four-star General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart, arrived in Sri Lanka Thursday (27) afternoon, amidst beating of Magul Bera (auspicious drums) and greetings to grace as Chief Guest at Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) Passing out Parade (PoP) on Saturday (29). A ceremonial reception, coloured by traditional dancers, greeted the visiting Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Parvez Kayani, Mrs Begum Zahida Kayani and the delegation at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.

    Chief of Army Staff, Pakistan Army General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani NI (M) HI, now in Sri Lanka to attend the Passing-out Parade (PoP) at Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy, called on his host, Sri Lanka’s counterpart, General Jagath Jayasuriya at the Army Headquarters Friday (28) morning. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, with his  delegation and the spouse, Mrs Begum Zahida Kayani arrived in Sri Lanka Thursday (27) evening to a warm welcome at Katunayake International Airport.
