  • President Promotes Army Commander to Four Star General

     
    HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has promoted Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya VSV USP ndu psc to the rank of General, to be effective retrospectively from 1st June 2013. General Jagath Jayasuriya is the 19th Commander of the Army. He assumed office on 15th July 2009, months after the war against terrorism was brought to completion.

  • Youngest 4 Star General in the Army Accorded Guard of Honour


    General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army who was promoted to the rank of General, received honours from the troops at the Army Headquarters during a special parade at MoD grounds on Monday (17) morning. He is the youngest General in the Army to have received this rank while serving as the Commander of the Army. General Jagath Jayasuriya  on arrival at the parade ground reviewed the Guard Turnout at first after Commanding Officer of the Headquarters’ Battalion received him.

  • 28 Army Built New Houses Given Away in Sampoor


    The second phase of the Sampoor Housing Project for displaced people, actively supported by 22 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) was declared open recently after delivering keys symbolically to 28 house recipients. The project sponsored by International India’s Filming Academy and Habitat Humanity was brought to completion by the troops in coordination with the Trincomalee District Secretary’s secretariat.
  • Volunteer Force All Ranks Gather Together to Listen to Their Commander


    Major General A.W.J.C De Silva, Commander, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) with a view to meeting SLAVF troops serving under the 55 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) recently visited the 55 Division Headquarters. During the tour, the visiting SLAVF Commander addressed a gathering of 1000 officers and other ranks serving volunteer units and gave a patient hearing to their problems, issues and other matters of concern.

    The towering and attractive Dagoba (Pagoda), erected by 12 Division troops in Hambantota at Tissapura Sri Sumedharama Viharaya during a record short period was unveiled on Saturday (15) at the auspicious hour after placing sacred relics and a valuable pinnacle (Kotha) atop it. 12 Division troops undertook the responsibility of erecting this structure.........

  • BCGR Conducts Post-Rehabilitation Monitoring Meeting Ex-combatants


    Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Brigadier Darshana Hettiarachchi of the Bureau of Commissioner General of Rehabilitation (BCGR) with the intention of post-rehabilitation monitoring the living status of re-integrated ex-combatants in the peninsula, visited 55 Division areas of the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) during two days (Jun 12-13).

    Keppapilavu Model Village in Mullaittivu, entrusted to 165 families, sheltered earlier in the Manik Farm centre for displaced people in Vavuniya was vested in the public during a grand ceremony on Saturday (15). HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, accompanied by Ministers, Governors, Commander of the Army and a host of other invitees gave away keys to first 10 house recipients during the brief ceremony.
