Hindu Special Kovil Pooja Bestows Blessings
The final religious event in the series of multi-religious ceremonies that preceded in the past two weeks, got underway Thursday (9) evening with the sacred ‘Abishekam’ Pooja of Hindu tradition where blessings were invoked on the 65th Army Anniversary and Army Day (October 10) during a special ceremony at Sri Ponnambalam Vaneshwarar Kovil, Colombo 13, attended by Major General E.M.M. Ambanpola, Deputy Chief of Staff as the Chief Guest, representing the Commander of the Army. 
The victorious Sri Lanka Army, now dubbed as the prime mover behind post-conflict revival and the most-sought service provider of the country, turns 65 years of age on Friday (Oct 10, 2014). Founded in 1949 as then 'Ceylon Army', but changed to be called the Sri Lanka Army in the year 1972 after Ceylon became a Republic, is the most respected, if not the most admired service provider of the country in the post-war scenario, mainly due to its unmatched warfare achievements in the humanitarian operations that eradicated terrorism from the Mother Lanka in May 2009..jpg)

Today’s ceremony is the climax of a series of commemorative ceremonies that got underway beginning the final week of September. In an unprecedented move to coincide with the Army Day (Oct 10), HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has promoted 108 officers to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on the recommendations of the Secretary Defence and the Commander of the Army, effective from today (10).......
