  • Hindu Special Kovil Pooja Bestows Blessings


    The final religious event in the series of multi-religious ceremonies that preceded in the past two weeks, got underway Thursday (9) evening with the sacred ‘Abishekam’ Pooja of Hindu tradition where blessings were invoked on the 65th Army Anniversary and Army Day (October 10) during a special ceremony at Sri Ponnambalam Vaneshwarar Kovil, Colombo 13, attended by Major General E.M.M. Ambanpola, Deputy Chief of Staff as the Chief Guest, representing the Commander of the Army.

    The victorious Sri Lanka Army, now dubbed as the prime mover behind post-conflict revival and the most-sought service provider of the country, turns 65 years of age on Friday (Oct 10, 2014).  Founded in 1949 as then 'Ceylon Army', but changed to be called the Sri Lanka Army in the year 1972 after Ceylon became a Republic, is the most respected, if not the most admired service provider of the country in the post-war scenario, mainly due to its unmatched warfare achievements in the humanitarian operations that eradicated terrorism from the Mother Lanka in May 2009.

    In spite of grave risks, posed to their own lives, two War Heroes of the 3 Gajaba Regiment of the 574 Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi, in what could be considered as an adventure of the highest nature and incredibility,  rescued the precious life of the one and half year old infant, Sivakumar Sindujan who fell into an agrarian well (vaga linda) of 25 ft deep in the general area of Mankulam in Kilinochchi.............
