  • President Laments Wrong Vision of the IC & Ask Terrorists to Surrender at Least Now

    “WE have at no time gone for a ceasefire. We will not do so now. There is no time for that now. In the five or six days remaining we have given the opportunity for the LTTE to lay down their arms and surrender to the Armed Forces and, even in the name of God, free the civilians held by them. If they have no regard for their own lives they should even consider the lives of others”. President Mahinda Rajapaksa made these observations at the 50th anniversary of the commissioning of the Chandrikawewa at Embilipitiya, today (30).

  • Leading Buddhist Monks Protest UK Stance; Defence Secretary Assures No Harm to British HC

    COLOMBO: OVER three hundred leading Buddhist monks, led by Ven. Dr Omalpe Sobhitha Nayaka Thera staged a peaceful sit-on protest opposite the Colombo-based British High Commission against the UK’s opposition to the elimination of LTTE terrorism in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (29).     The protesters, backed by many patriotic civilians and monks attached to the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) held placards and banners that condemned the UK’s most recent controversial statements and illogical decisions regarding the last stage of the war against terrorism.

    SRI LANKA has strongly objected to the failure by Britain and France to crackdown on demonstrations staged in those countries by pro-LTTE supporters who even raised the LTTE flag, and asked if they would do the same if such protests were staged by pro Al Qaeda groups.Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona told journalists yesterday that the government had made these observations when Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama’s delegation met the Foreign Ministers of Britain and France in Colombo on Wednesday.

  • Sajeevan (13) and Sujeeva (11): A Tale of Two Brothers

    BROTHERS Sajeevan (13) and Sujeeva (11) are lucky children. They were able to escape LTTE atrocities and reach the Government administered area on board ICRC chartered vessel with other fortunate evacuees.Sajeevan and Sujeeva travelled along with other 521 civilians leaving their parents and elder sister. "My parents didn't get a pass to accompany us. We were living in a bunker hiding from the LTTE. They asked my father to work for them. The LTTE threatened people either to work for them and if they refused they were punished," Sajeevan told the Daily News.

  • Three Tiger Boats Destroyed-Navy

    MULLAITTIVU: AT least twenty-three Tiger terrorists aboard three LTTE boats, including two suicide boats were destroyed in the MULLAITTIVU seas by Naval attack craft this morning (01). Naval troops on close surveillance in the seas spotted this unusual movement as the wee hours broke and pursued it in a meticulous manner until their identities were verified through technical sources.  Meanwhile, a release issued by the Media Center for National Security (MCNS) said;

    SRI LANKA Army’s official news wing, (www.army.lk) has been illegally hacked and technically ‘assassinated’ by suspected Tiger terrorists or their proxies, during the wee hours on Friday (1st May), inserting some horrible and gruesome images. This new form of information ‘terrorism’ is a criminal offence that can be subjected to prosecution, according to international legal provisions. Tiger terrorists and their mouthpieces since of recent times have been miserably affected with the record increase in the number of visitors to this popular Army Web portal which depicted the bitter truth behind LTTE terrorism and its ugly atrocities in their correct perspective.

  • 'No Question of Ceasefire'; No one Should Act to Strengthen Terrorism - President:

    PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday (30) that although there are many requests to go for a Ceasefire there was no time and need for it at this stage and the Government’s aim was to liberate the remaining civilians in the No Fire Zone within the next five or six days. “Therefore, the question of a ceasefire does not arise at all,” the President added.President Rajapaksa was addressing the ceremony Walawe Urumaya in Embilipitiya to commemorate the 104th birth anniversary of D.A. Rajapaksa and the 50th anniversary of the constructing of the Chandrika Wewa.

    SRI Lanka Army’s official news wing (www.army.lk) temporarily affected by LTTE cyber terrorism during early hours on Friday (1st May 2009) is back on track as usual. We thank each and every one of you for your excellent gesture of concern, goodwill and encouragement showered on us no sooner than the web wing was intruded.   • Tigers Trigger Own Suicide Explosions Intending to Provoke IC

    MULLAITTIVU: TROOPS now operating ahead of the newly captured REKTAVAIKKAL earth bund Thursday (30) late night have reportedly heard the sound of a huge explosion inside the remaining area, yet to be captured by the ground troops.  Troops maintain some civilians would have been either injured or killed in the explosion, though the exact nature of the incident was yet to be ascertained.   

  • 58 LTTE Child Soldiers Admitted for Rehabilitation

    VAVUNIYA: FIFTY EIGHT LTTE child soldiers under eighteen years of age who surrendered to the Security Forces in the past few weeks were delivered to the VAVUNIYA Police on a District Court order to be taken to AMBEPUSSA Rehabilitation Centre for Children for Rehabilitation. The VAVUNIYA Police on Thursday (30) produced them before the VAUVUNIYA District court.
