All is set to kick off the Army-initiated international ‘Defence Seminar - 2012’, titled ‘Towards Lasting Peace and Stability’ on Wednesday (8) at Colombo Galadari Hotel. The three-day seminar covers thematic Reconstruction, Resettlement, Rehabilitation, Reintegration, Reconciliation (5Rs) spheres in post-conflict Sri Lanka with the participation of about 250 foreign and local delegates. Brigadier-General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Yussof bin Haji Abd Rahman, Brunei’s Commander of the Royal Land Forces was one of the firsts to arrive in Sri Lanka to attend Wednesday’s (8) ‘Defence Seminar on 5Rs’at Colombo Galadari Hotel who on Tuesday (7) morning paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at Army Headquarters.
Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, extending a warm welcome to the delegates attending the ‘Defence Seminar – 2012’ at Colombo Galadari Hotel underlined that the case in Sri Lanka’s post-conflict situation necessitated the engagement of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces for Civil Community, Civil Ministries, Civil Military Cooperation and in Reconstruction since the three-decade conflict had left the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka in disarray.
The fact that the very central theme of ongoing sessions of the ‘Defence Seminar - 2012’, titled ‘Towards Lasting Peace and Stability’, is designed with a view to sharing Army’s post-war experiences of unparalleled proportions, turned out to be a timely arrangement as several foreign contributors to the inaugural sessions complimented Sri Lanka and the military for their “impressive and remarkable achievements”.....
