  • Viru Daru Society Celebrates Christmas with a Grand Carol Service


    To coincide with forthcoming Christmas celebrations, Viru Daru Society, the recently inaugurated Juniors Club of Sri Lanka Army comprising War Heroes’ Children, organized a Christmas Carol Friday (16) evening at Defence Services School, Slave Island, Colombo. The Chief Guest for the event was the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya accompanied by President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya.

    Lending the fatherly eye on a child struck by a serious heart ailment the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya in response to a personal appeal made to him, took steps to donate a sum of Rs 2.5 lakhs for recovery of the 7 year old girl, confirmed afflicted with a critical cardiac disease. Father of the child, a Senior Non-commissioned Officer of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC).....

    'Kandula VII', the Regimental mascot of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (SLLI) which traces its distinguished and ancient lineage of descent from the times of King Dutu Gemunu, the country's foremost warrior king, immortalized its service span of 50 years in a three-day long 'Exhibition of Kandula's Photos', declared open by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army on Sunday (18) morning to the public at  Colombo National Arts Gallery.

    The Army emerged the Clifford Cup boxing champions for the year 2011 when they finished on top at the 84th Clifford Cup Boxing Championship held at the Linea Gymnasium, Pallekele from 14th to 17th December. Army recorded their win with 4 Golds, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronz medals in their bag while the Air Force (3 Golds and 2 Silvers) and MAS Holdings finished second and third.....
