The year’s flagship project of the Army, ‘Defence Seminar - 2014,’ that articulates diverse challenges, faced by the country in her forward march to prosperity, inaugurates its sessions Monday (18) morning at Colombo Galadari Hotel, together with a host of foreign and local delegates.
Prof G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs who graced the inaugural sessions of the Defence Seminar - 2014 this morning (18) at Colombo Galadari Hotel as the Chief Guest, in his presentation to the forum on ‘Defining the Nation’s Success: a Critical Examination of the ascension of Sri Lanka,’ queried the wisdom of ill-treatment towards Sri Lanka by some foreign powers while exerting relentless pressure on her forward-march.
Mr Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor Central Bank of Sri Lanka presenting his views on the topic ‘Sustaining Economic Momentum in the Nation’s Journey to Prosperity’ in the Session 2 in the ongoing Defence Seminar - 2014 at Colombo Galadari Hotel highlighted the momentum Sri Lanka has achieved in the sphere of economic revival with the return of durable peace to Sri Lanka.
“Reaching 73rd position in the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI) – 2013 itself, asserts that Sri Lanka has performed well, and this rise means economic development. This undoubtedly encourages us to do better, strengthening the nexus between peace and development which emanates from security and safety,” underlined Mr Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary to the President............
The final session of the Day 1 of the Defence Seminar – 2014 at Colombo Galadari Hotel was addressed by Dr Sarath Amunugama, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning on ‘Sri Lanka: Claiming a Stake in Global Prosperity’ Monday (18) evening. Praising the Army organizers for the ‘useful exercise’ told the well attended seminar that Sri Lanka is fast becoming a role model in its quest for development.......
Sri Lanka has performed well in the region, in terms of many global indices and the country is well placed in the World Rule of Law Index and the Global Peace Index, being on top in South Asia.
