  • Mother Unit Salutes Major General Samarasinghe

    THE newly promoted Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief Signal Officer (CSO) cum new Military Spokesman was accorded a guard turnout plus a Guard of Honour at the Sri Lanka Signal Corps Headquarters premises at Panagoda on Thursday (11). The military honour offered by his mother unit was to greet Major General Samarasinghe who was promoted from the rank of Brigadier a few days ago.

  • Commander Pays his Maiden Visits to Eastern Brigades & Extols Sacrifices

    LIEUTENANT GENERAL Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army after his assumption of office as Army Chief several months ago paid his maiden visits to the Brigades in the Eastern province and met a large section of officers and soldiers serving there on Friday (12) for the first time. The day’s itinerary of the Commander kicked off with his visit to the 234 Brigade Headquarters at Kallady where he was warmly received by Brigadier M.H. Bonifus Perera, General Officer Commanding 23 Division on arrival at the premises.

  • Major General S. Udumalagala Assumes Office as New Commander SFHQ-East

    MAJOR GENERAL S. Udumalagala took over duties as the new Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) on Thursday (11) morning after a brief ceremony that included both religious and military traditions. The new Security Forces Commander, East was accorded a guard turnout plus a Guard of Honour by soldiers at SFHQ-E on his arrival at the premises.His predecessor, Major General J.C. Rambukpotha is to take over as the new Master General Ordinance (MGO) at Army Headquarters.

  • UN Affiliated NGO Reps Meet Wanni Commander

    COMMANDER Security Forces Wanni and Competent Authority for IDPs in Northern Province Major General Kamal Gunaratna met several representatives of UN affiliated NGOs at Wanni Security Forces Headquarters. UN representatives included Messrs Neil Buhne, Desiree Jongsma, Mohomed Abdiker, Tine Starmos, Doulas Keh, David Igulu, Barbara Manzi and Sakura Asumi.

  • COMMANDER RESPONDS TO MRS FONSEKA'S REQUEST FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE TO GENERAL FONSEKA

    COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, in response to a written request made to him by Mrs Anoma Fonseka, wife of General Sarath Fonseka over provision of medical consultations to General Fonseka intimated on Friday (12) that a special medical team from the Military Hospital is on call round the clock for him in case of any emergency. Similarly, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya has instructed.....

  • One More New Batch of SF Troopers Passed Out

    THE passing out parade of 40th batch of the Special Forces took place on Saturday (13) at Maduruoya Special Forces Training School where Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was the Chief Guest. Army Commander was received on arrival by the Colonel Commandant of Special Forces Major General Kamal Gunaratne and  accorded a guard turnout according to military traditions. Later, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya received the Guard of Honour accorded to him by officers and soldiers who passed out on the occasion. The Parade Commander for the passing out parade was Major R.P.S. Prasad.

    WANNI: TROOPS on their search and clear operations in the general areas of KARAPPUKUTTI, PULIYANKULAM and MUNDIMURIPPU areas recovered one 60 mm mortar bomb, one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) and two T-55 tanks abandoned by the Army on Sunday (14).   • Mobitel to Sponsor New House for Disabled War Hero

    RELATED INAUGURAL work connected to construction of a new house for a fully disabled War Hero by Mobitel Lanka Ltd was discussed during a special meeting that took place at Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) office on Thursday (11). Mobitel Lanka Ltd offers its sponsorship for the construction and Ms Lisa de Silva, Chairperson Mobitel Lanka Ltd attended the meeting, headed by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB.

    A MASSIVE marshy paddy land area of about 4000 acres, hitherto remained barren as a result of continued terrorist atrocities in Jaffna have begun to bear fruits as a result of the government-sponsored accelerated “Uthuru Wasanthaya” development programme.  A few months ago after those paddy lands in Chavakachcheri-Thanankilappu areas that fell under the former High Security Zone (HSZ) Jaffna were released back to their owners.     AS PART of the social services programmes being conducted by the Army, Security Forces Headquarters - South (SFHQ-S) in Panagoda sponsored donation of exercises books and other educational equipment to 50 students selected from poverty-stricken families in Watareka, Meegoda. The donation was organized by the Chief Priest at Sri Punyaloka Temple in Watareka, Meegoda as a part of the Army’s community.....
