    TRINCOMALEE: The Tiger (LTTE) terrorist, gunned down by the Army troops this morning (19) in MANACHCHENA, east of NEELAPOLA in TRINCOMALEE was confirmed to be the LTTE's intelligence wing leader for TRINCOMALEE, named SOUNDRARAJAN alias THANGAN.
  • Troops Recover A Hand Grenade

    JAFFNA: TROOPS ON A ROUTE CLEARING PATROL AT THE GENERAL AREA CHAVAKACHCHERI, JAFFNA recovered a hand grenade on Thursday (15) evening. The grenade was defused by the Army Bomb disposal team.

    In what was seen as another gesture of fast strengthening bonds of goodwill and co-operation between members of the public and the Security Forces in the Jaffna peninsula, particularly after the ceasefire agreement was signed, the Security Forces after fully de-mining an abandoned cultivable land of 18,01775 sq. meters in Maravanpulo, Chavakachcheri, returned the land for public use this weekend, July 17 during a brief ceremony.

    Norwegian Ambassador for Sri Lanka Mr. Hans Brattskar paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General S. H. S Kottegoda at the latter's office in Army Headquarters on Friday (16).
  • Ministry of Defence Denies Attack on PESALAI St. Mary's Church

    Security Forces strongly deny pro LTTE media reports that the Navy lobbed a hand grenade inside St. Mary's Church in PESALAI causing one death and injuring 44. This is yet another attempt by pro LTTE media to discredit the Government and tarnish the image of the Security Forces. In spite of PESALAI being a heavily populated area, Tamil Tigers fired heavy weapons like Motars, Machine guns and RPGs towards Army, Navy and Police detachments located in the vicinity of the Church over two hours. LTTE fired both from sea and land causing chaos and wounding many civilians in the area. According to security forces around 40 civilians, 30 male and 9 females were wounded under LTTE fire. Six critically wounded civilians were transferred to ANURADHAPURA hospital. A full scale investigation is underway.
  • LTTE Explosion On Water Bowser Kills Three More Policemen

    VAVUNIYA: THREE POLICEMEN WERE KILLED when Tamil Tiger terrorists detonated a claymore mine blasting a bowser carrying water to DUTUWEWA Police station on the VAVUNIYA – KEBITHIGOLLEWA road today (18) about 10.15 a.m.. The victims have been identified as Sergeant L. Y. Sugathapala (PS 23218), Police Constable J. A. Jayawardena (PC 30184) and Police Constable M. K. G. Rathnayake (PC 46668). Army and Police are conducting search and clear operations. The SLMM was to be informed.

    Colombo SUCCESS organization was recently in Vavuniya to conduct a special two-day long Medical and Eye Clinic for the benefit of villagers in Alagalle, Ulukkulam and Nelukkulam villages.
