Due to ongoing heavy rainfall across the country, the four spill gates of the Muthiyankattu Kulam Reservoir were opened on 27 November 2024, resulting in severe flooding in Wasanthipuram village. This inundation affected 72 families, displacing 129 individuals.

In response to the emergency situation caused by the release of water from the Kondawattuwan Reservoir in Ampara due to adverse weather, troops of the 24 Infantry Division, under the guidance of Major General S.A. Kulatunga RWP RSP VSV USP psc, Commander, Security Forces (East), ensured the uninterrupted participation of G.C.E. Advanced Level candidates who were unable to access their centres due to flooding. WMZ Armed Vehicles were deployed in Chadayanthalawa, Konduwattuwana, Weerayadi, Kiliodaya, and the Adal Oya fuel station to assist the candidates.

The troops provided boats to transport dry rations to isolated households in the inundated Nambuwewa village, in collaboration with government authorities.
