Military salutes, including a Guard of Honour and a Guard Turnout formally greeted General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Indian Army, now in Sri Lanka on a goodwill tour at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake when the former called at the Army Headquarters on Monday (14) morning to meet his host as the first formal leg of the itinerary in Sri Lanka.

In a rare symbolic gesture of solidarity with all ethnicities, the ‘M. C. A Hameed Hajiyar Trust’, a spiritual development centre of the Islamic faith inviting the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake as the Chief Guest on Saturday (5) gave away a stock of 110 wheelchairs for distribution among tri-service members, Police and civilians whom the donor organization treats as ‘those who need public attention and assistance of the society’.
