    The ‘National War Heroes’ month - 2017, dedicated to the memory of all fallen War Heroes of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and the Civil Security Department formally began with the pinning of the first War Hero commemorative flag on HE the President Maithripala Sirisena on Thursday (4) at the Presidential Secretariat.

    Reminiscent of age-old practices during the times of Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the tradition of ‘Negam Yama’ (visit to relatives), was revived Wednesday (26) morning by Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army by calling at the Ragama Ranaviru Sevana (disabled War Heroes’ wellness resort for recuperation and rehabilitation) where a total of 115 injured War Heroes are cared for recuperation and rehabilitation.

  • Army Troops Cover Garbage-Heap with Polythene

    Dedicated Engineer troops of the Army as of Saturday (22) afternoon, were busy rolling a huge polythene sheet, to cover up the remainder of the garbage heap in order to ensure safety of those still living near the location while the government is fully committed in providing alternative homes and other facilities to the worst-affected in the Meetotamulla garbage dump tragedy.
