14 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of the 621 Brigade under the 62 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni carried out a Shramadana campaign to clean Ethawetunawewa Main Irrigation canal of about 2000 m in length in the general area of Ethawetunuwewa on 18 October 2021.
The programme started after blessings of the Chief Incumbent of Monarawewa Sri Mayurivapi Viharaya, together with troops from 14 (V) SLLI, members from ‘Eksath Bedumela Sri Hasthi’ Farmers’ Society - Ethawetunawewa. The canal provides water for 206 acres of paddy fields and, facilitates 206 farming families during the Maha season.
As per the directions given by Major General Upali Gunasekara, General Officer Commanding 62 Division, it was conducted by the troops of, under the instructions of Brigadier Keerthi Perakum Commander 621 Brigade and with the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel J. Liyanagama Commanding Officer 14 (V) SLLI at Ethawetunawewa on 24 October 2021 as a result of the discussions held with the GOC, Brigade Commander, Commanding Officer and Officers of farmers' Society on 18th October 2021.
