Army Troops Busy Clearing Oil Patches in Muthurajawela Seas

Troops of the 1 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC), 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 2 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) on the directions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake and the Commander, Security Forces - West (SF-West) Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage rushed to the coastal belt around Muthurajawela, North of Colombo and assisted the clearance of an oil patch floating in the seas this afternoon (9).

The oil patch has been spot by the Coastal Guards before Sri Lanka Army and Naval troops were kept informed.

3 Officers and 58 Other Rankers of the Army attended to the emergency need and cleaned up polluted waters since it would pose a threat to marine conversation and the environment.

However, it has now been confirmed the oil patch had polluted the seas due to a split in one of the pipes that carries oil to the Muturajawela oil storage.
