4 VIR Volleyballers Emerge Champions in Jaffna Tournament

After a tight competition, 4 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) sportsmen emerged champions beating 4 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) in the finals of the Volleyball tournament of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ - J), held at the SFHQ-J ground on Monday (26).

The Volleyball tournament which had 32 teams under command to SFHQ-J was organized by the 511 Brigade, following the guidelines given by the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J), Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi. It was aimed to improve the sportsmanship of officers/soldiers and develop cohesion among them.

4 VIR team won the tournament and 4 SLCMP was named the Runners-up and 2 Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) secured the third place in the tournament respectively.

Private M. Sadeesh of the 4 VIR was named the best All Rounder in the tournament while the Best Dasher award was presented to Sergeant W.G.C Premakumara of the 4 SLCMP. The Best Passer and the Best Libero awards were respectively secured by Private H.M.S Herath of the 4 VIR and Corporal P.M.S.A Pathiraja of the 4 SLCMP.

Major General Laksiri Waduge, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed awards to the winners.

Major General Roshan Seneviratne, GOC, 51 Division, Senior Officers, Offices and other Rankers were present at the event.
