Helping Hand Given to Batticaloa St Joseph's College Refurbishment

10 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops of the 231 Brigade of the 23 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) in response to a request of the authorities in St Joseph's College, Batticaloa took steps to refurbish and colourwash school buildings, prior to the commemoration of its 143rd College Day and anniversary.

Troops of the 231 Brigade on the directions of Brigadier Senarath Niwunhella, 231 Brigade Commander carried out those refurbishment activities as a gesture of goodwill under the guidelines given by college authorities by way of selecting required colours and other specifications, etc.

The College also in a special appeal to Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E) wanted him to be the Guest of Honour for the 143rd College Day anniversary celebrations, headed by Ambassador for Vatican His Eminence Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Pierre Ngyuen Van Tot. His Lordship Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Ponniah, together with college authorities had made the invitation to this effect.

Major General Pananwala participating as the Guest of Honour for the 143rd College Day anniversary celebration in the school premises urged students to strive to be well learned and productive personalities in society during his brief talk to the occasion.

The audience also appreciated the contribution made by the troops for college's refurbishment and thanked the Army for timely completion of the required refurbishment.

His Lordship Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Ponniah, Member of Parliament Batticaloa Hon. S. Viyalendiran, Genaral Officer Commanding, 23 Division - Brigadier Chula Abeynayka, Brigadier Senarath Niwunhella, 231 Brigade Commander, principal and the staff, members of the School Development Society, teachers and students of invited schools, parents, students and well-wishers attended the event.
