229 New Recruits Pass Out Giving Oath to Care for Greener Tomorrow

229 new recruits who followed a six-month long Recruit Training Course at Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Training School in Trincomalee on Thursday (8) passed out in a smart parade upon completion of basic recruit training in the Course No 24 at the Recruit Training School, Clappenberg, Trincomalee after a ceremony.

The military formalities and the ceremonial Passing out Parade, assumed the form of a cultural pageant, coloured by displays in physical training, band playing, Taekwondo, drill displays, etc, amidst a large gathering of parents, relatives and friends.

Major General Aruna Jayasekara, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division took part in the ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Private H.M.H.M Herath of the Special Forces received the cane and the trophy from the Chief Guest as the Best Recruit for achieving the highest aggregate marks for all theoretical and practical disciplines during training.

In accordance with a new concept introduced by the Commander of the Army, the ceremony distributed 2290 saplings among those 229 recruits. All of them took an oath at the same time that they would take care of those saplings until they are fully grown as a component in their military life. The oath was also read out in the presence of everyone by the day’s Chief Guest.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, parents, relatives and friends of newly recruit soldiers participated in the ceremony.

Best Platoon Commander - 2 Lieutenant P.M.V.D Pathiraja (10 CES)

Best Platoon Sergeant - Sergeant R.P.R Darmarathne (3 SLNG)

Best Section Commander - Lance Corporal D.M.S Wickramasinghe (26 SLNG)

Best Physical Instructor - Lance Corporal R.D Abeysinghe (16 SLLI)

Best Physical - Recruit D.M.G.M.D Bogoda (SF)

Best Shooter - Recruit K.A.H Sadaruwan (SF)

Best Platoon - First Platoon

Best Section - Third Section of the First Platoon
