The newly-constructed Bishop House, assisted by troops of the 23 Division at the St. Peter’s Church, Vakarai, was declared open by Bishop of Batticaloa, Rev. Dr. Joseph Ponniah on Sunday (10).
Following a request made by the Bishop for assistance, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division offered the assistance and expertise of his troops for construction of the residence since the church could not afford to pay for masons and other related charges.
Major General N.J Walgama, Commander, SFHQ-E, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Division, military and civil officials were present during the opening ceremony.
