Army Image Should Always be Preserved- Commander Tells Troops

“Our troops after winning over the most ruthless terrorist group, perhaps in the whole world, earned a good reputation worldwide for itself, a fact no one can deny. So the hard-earned name has to be preserved and upheld at all times since various interested elements are poised to do anything possible to tarnish our image. As you all know, even Media sometimes flare up various incidents, committed by our members, many of them who had deserted the Army. So, the Army’s image is thus brought to ridicule and insult. All serving troops must ensure that their involvement or commitments even when they are off duty, count and world wide negatively,” so said Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Monday (8) morning at Panagoda.

On the eve of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army went to the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) on Monday (8) at Panagoda to offer New Year greetings after talking to the troops.

Major General S.R. Manawaduge, Security Force Commander - West after receiving the visiting Commander of the Army, conducted him to receive the Guard of Honour, presented by the SFHQ-West troops.

Afterwards, the Commander made use of the occasion to address the troops who were eagerly awaiting his arrival. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya after offering New Year greetings called upon all of them to throw their full-weight behind making the country a prosperous one.

At the SFHQ-West, as was the practice elsewhere, the Commander freely mingled with troops who had arrived there to listen to him and planted a Na sapling at SFHQ premises to mark the visit.

General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Unit Commanders and a large gathering were present at the occasion.
